Earthquake preparedness is necessary nowadays because of the changing environment that we have. In order to be informed of what to do before, during, and after an earthquake, Guevara High School conducted their quarterly earthquake drill last November 14, 2019.

Orientation of the teachers as well as the students on how to do earthquake drill was led by the DRRM coordinator. Earthquake drills are simple and easy to do but it requires discipline and focus about the objectives of the activity.

The conduct of an earthquake drill requires planning and designing of evacuation procedure, thus the school administrators and staff did a thorough preparation for the said activity.

The drill lasted for about thirty (30) to forty (40) minutes. It was supervised by Sir Aniceto P. Dela Cruz, Head Teacher III of the MAPEH Department, Sir Florencio D. Javier Jr. DRRM Coordinator, together with the assistance of the Supreme Student Government officers and School Admins. The drill was participated by the students from the Junior High School and Senior High School with their respective advisers and teachers. Each section prepared sample and possible scenarios during and after the earthquake. Some were injured and wounded, some panicked and some helped other students who were being injured and hurt.

Earlier to the scheduled drill, students were oriented and informed regarding the things to be observed during the conduct of the drill. Exit points of the building and evacuation areas were identified and well assigned so that during the drill, the students know where to go and evacuate.

During the actual drill, once the siren was heard, students together with their teachers did the expected actions, to perform the duck, cover, and hold. After the one minute siren, another siren rang and then the students quietly go out of the room and proceed to the previously designated evacuation areas. Teachers did the headcount while the students were in the ground in order to identify if all students went out of the room.

The teachers and students stayed for 20 minutes in their respective places in observance of their proper meters, away from the hazards that will cause another possible problem to them. The coordinator guided the students to know the right meter and right evacuation site that the teacher and students need to use whenever earthquake occurs in the time that they were in the school premises.

Overall, the conduct of the fourth simultaneous earthquake drill went on smoothly and easily by the teachers and students. It was also well-conducted by the school administrators and staffs, however, to be more effective and more knowledgeable enough to the possible situation before, during and after an earthquake, the drill must be done regularly and consistently.
